Respiratory Services
Our respiratory therapy team at Dunn Memorial Hospital encompasses activities in diagnostic evaluation, therapy and education. These services are overseen by our physicians, which are supported by years of education through clinical research.
Dunn Memorial Hospital requires their respiratory care practitioners to be certified or registered. Many of the therapists are also trained and hold credentials in specialty areas such as: pulmonary function testing, asthma education, sleep study diagnostics and cardiology. These individuals must meet the educational and experience requirements for the safe delivery of respiratory care services through competency validation mechanisms. These guidelines have been established by either legislative or regulatory acts of their respective states and through the credentialing of the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Our therapists perform various tests and procedures. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Respiratory therapy protocols
- Arterial blood gases
- Pulmonary function testing
- Oxygen therapy
- Aerosolized medication delivery
- Volume Expansion
- Postural drainage & percussion
- Ventilator care
- Tobacco cessation education
- Asthma education
- COPD education
- EKG’s

Harmonica and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
You don’t need to have any musical background when you perform "Harmonica-Therapy"
How does this help pulmonary (lung) function?
Anything that improves or maintains lung function also helps reduce asthma and/or COPD symptoms. The very nature of playing the harmonica facilitates deep breathing and increases lung capacity. These are both very desirable things.
Playing the harmonica mimics techniques used by respiratory therapists that teach people how to control their breathing rate and shortness of breath. It’ s a fun way to exercise your lungs. Know more...call us at 276-1220.
